PKR Turning Into Another Multiracial UMNO?

I have had many run-ins with the Chief Minister of Penang, Lim Guan Eng. We have had a fair share of disagreements. But on many socio-political issues in this country, we are on the same page.

This is one thing that I must stand on the side of Chief Minister Lim. On June 2, the Penang state government had appointed the Penang Island Municipal Council (MPPP) acting president, Tan Cheng Chui, as president of the MPPP. Tan is a career civil servant.

Guan Eng stands firm on council appointment issue

BUKIT MERTAJAM: Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng reiterated the state government’s stand that the post of president for the Seberang Perai Municipal Council (MPSP) and Penang Island Municipal Council (MPPP) would be helmed by civil servants.

Indiscipline PKR councillors should resign from MPSP!!

Press Statement by Jeff Ooi in Jelutong on Thursday, 4th June 2009:

PKR councillors who defied outright the appointment of the new president for Seberang Prai Municipal Council (MPSP) should resign from their appointed posts immediately, said MP for Jelutong, Jeff Ooi.

He said the position of the council president is not to be misconstrued as the fiefdom of PKR or any political party.

Storm in a teacup at Seberang Perai Municipal Council

A storm in a teacup has blown up in Penang over the appointment of a civil servant to head the Seberang Perai Municipal Council, rather than a PKR political appointee.

It resulted in eight PKR municipal councillors boycotting this morning’s swearing-in ceremony of new president Mokthar Mohd Jait.
